California's Small Business Development Center Network

This joint webinar with the Employment Development Department (EDD) will focus on understanding the differences between a common law employee and an independent contractor. Fire Prevention Educational Video for "A Occupancies"

Fire Prevention Supervisor with the city of San Diego, Pamela Thomas, has created narrated PowerPoint training videos that target specific occupancy types in an effort to provide education to the public. The purpose of the videos is to give detailed information to business owners and occupants so they can keep their occupancies code compliant and be prepared for annual inspections.

Adams Avenue Unplugged

Adams Avenue Unplugged takes place the weekend of April 25 and 26, along a two-mile stretch of Adams Avenue, from University Heights on the West through Normal Heights, and into parts of Kensington to the East. The event will feature 150 live musical performances staged inside restaurants, bars, coffee houses and galleries lining the neighborhood and on four community stages evenly spread out throughout the district. 

Music is scheduled from 12-noon to 10pm on Saturday, April 25, and 12-noon to 8pm on Sunday, April 26. Some artists will be playing multiple sets allowing attendees more opportunity to catch their favorite performers.

Adams Avenue Unplugged is free and open to the general public. Follow the link for more info- www.adamsavenueunplugged.com

ACCION San Diego Workshop
ACCION San Diego is hosting its annual "Small Business Boot Camp" on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. - noon. "Six Key Steps to Starting a Business" at 8:30 a.m. will predominantly focus on starting a home-based business. This event will feature a resource center, networking opportunities, and two specialized programs led by a team of small business coaches. The Start-Up Program is specially designed for new and aspiring business owners, while the Growth Program is for seasoned business owners. The Boot Camp is free to all attendees. Register HERE

Mid-City Little League

MCLL is unique because it serves an incredibly diverse population, including many low-income families living below the poverty line. The MCLL 2011 Senior Team won the District 33 and Section 6 Championship titles. It is a San Diego Little League to be proud of!

AABA Annual Meeting

The Adams Avenue Business Association's Annual Breakfast Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 27th from 8-9:30 AM at Polite Provisions at 30th & Adams (4696 30th St). Come socialize with your business neighbors and sample breakfast cuisine prepared by Soda & Swine chefs, coffee by Dark Horse Coffee Roasters, and fresh juice by Senor Mangos. Join our New Year's tradition as we toast to Adams Avenue's ongoing revitalization and elect the 2015 slate of nominees to serve on the AABA's Board of Directors. The cost of the breakfast is $10 (cash or check) at the door, and please RSVP no later than Friday, Jan. 23rd to kat@adamsavenuebusiness.com if you will be in attendance.
 

New Businesses on Adams Ave

The UPS Store is now open for business in Kensington Commons at 4142 Adams Ave, and Kensington Dental Group at the same address is now open for business and hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, January 23rd from 12-1 pm.

Home Start Thrift Store is a new thrift boutique which has opened recently on Adams Avenue in a remodeled craftsmen store front. The store is a branch of a non-profit that helps support families in need.

Nomad Donuts is open for business at 4504 30th St. They make specialty donuts with all kinds of unique and interesting flavor combos.

After 19 years on Adams Avenue, Gledhill's Vintage Furniture has moved to 10925 Wheatlands Avenue, Suite B, Santee 9207. Their phone number remains the same (619) 296-8272.
