The Adams Avenue Business Association was founded in 1982 and incorporated in 1985 as a California Mutual Benefit Non-Profit organization to band together and assist the business owners along Adams Avenue. Our association is guided by our dedicated volunteer Board of Directors and Committees. Members of the Board are elected for two-year terms from the general membership while the committees are open to any of our member merchants. Our members are all the businesses located along Adams Avenue from Hamilton St. on the west to Vista Street on the east. Within the two mile stretch of Adams Avenue, we have over 600 business members.
The AABA manages the Adams Avenue Business Improvement District and the local Maintenance Assessment Districts. The AABA also hosts several annual special events which include: Adams Avenue Unplugged (formerly known as Adams Avenue Roots & Folk Festival), Taste of Adams Avenue, and Adams Avenue Street Fair (Southern California’s Largest FREE Music Festival). We present these events as promotion for the business district, fundraising activities for all other projects and programs of the AABA, and as a way to build community pride, spirit, and identity.
Interested in Becoming a Member?
All you need to do is to open a new business or relocate your current business to our business district and pay the required City of San Diego Business License Tax and the Business Improvement District's fee (simultaneously collected each year by the City of San Diego). We are always seeking new members to add something fresh to the Adams Avenue experience. You can be added to the weekly E-News distribution listing here: Add Me
If you own a business along Adams Av between Hamilton St. and Vista St. or along any side street one half (1/2) block off of Adams Av., you are already a member of the AABA. In addition to the events that provide promotions to the Avenue we also provide our members with other services. The following is a partial list:
•
Advertise the AABA and its member businesses
•
Act as a liaison for member businesses to government agencies
•
Provide special programs that allow our member businesses to use sidewalks which are in the public right of way: to place an A frame style sign, have a display or provide café seating. The City of San Diego does not allow anything to be placed on the sidewalks, but through our public right of way program (PROW) we can provide you with a permit.
•
The Storefront Improvement Program (SIP) is another program that helps businesses remodel their storefronts by providing rebates. The City of SD will rebate to a business one third of their total expenditures up to $5,000. We can help you with the application process to make it totally painless
•
We host member mixers and the Annual AABA meeting that provides you with opportunities to meet other businesses and to network
•
Your business is listed on our website and if you have a website we can also provide a link from our website to yours
