Nothing brings people together like food.
That’s why Adams Avenue came alive on Sunday, as food lovers from across San Diego embarked on a culinary journey equipped with just a tasting map, a spork and, hopefully, an empty stomach.
The 24th annual Taste of Adams Avenue featured a laundry list of San Diego’s hottest eateries, including old mainstays and new favorites.
The vibe was perhaps best captured inside the avenue’s newest restaurant, bosforo, where a moustachioed man moved seamlessly between spinning pizza dough and spinning records. A line stretched around the block to get a taste of the slices as they came fresh out of the oven, burning bright in the background.
Just across Interstate 805, another queue formed, this time for refreshing ice cream on a hot Summer’s day. It wasn’t just any ice cream. It was An’s Dry Cleaning, which has been voted the Best Indie Ice Cream Shop in America for two consecutive years by USA Today readers.
The beauty of the event was that creativity was on display at every stop whether it was Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant, where they sampled their new elote nachos, or Hayes Burger, where their signature smash burger was beloved by Tasters who marveled at the local art all over the eatery’s walls.
At the corner of Adams Avenue and East Mountain View Drive, the team at Madi made the impossible come to life as they captured the essence of brunch in a sample serving.
Across Adams, 41 restaurants showed off their eats and drinks, as Tasters traversed the two mile stretch on foot and via the Old Town Trolley.
That’s what made today’s Taste of Adams Avenue so special. Yes, we were floored by the delicious eats.
But what makes this a great event year after year is the community of people who come together to make this a reality.
From the restaurants and their workers who band together to show off the best two miles of tastiness in San Diego to the community members who rush to buy tickets and make this event a sold-out success every year, we’re one big happy community.
